Traditionally, Christmas is time of year for fun, relaxation and meeting with family and friends. You may not spend much time thinking about your home or prepping it ready for Christmas. The kitchen is where all the magic happens and it is this area that needs a small well-timed makeover to help your Christmas go smoothly. You might be surprised to know that there are some things you can do to create the perfect kitchen.
It may have been a long time since you had your fitted kitchen installed or you may not like the colours you first chose for your kitchen units. There are so many places you can shop now to change the colour of your units. Paint is available in so many different colours that you are sure to find one you like.
If you’re not sure what colour to go for start by looking at the size of your kitchen. If you have a smaller space choose a colour that contrasts with your walls, perhaps in a lighter shade. If you have a big space it is okay to choose the same or similar colour as your walls. Pale colours of yellow, green and blue work well in the kitchen just don’t choose flat colours. For a small extra amount of spending you can change the door handles to modern or traditional styles depending on what your personal preference is.
If your current fridge-freezer is too small to contain your weekly shopping then chances are it will be much too small for all the extra food to accommodate guests over the Christmas period. Make a list of what is in there currently and needs to stay, and what has been sitting there for over 6 months unused like that old bottle of Sriracha. If you plan to pre-cook a lot of food to freeze it and have the room in your garage or utility-room then opt for a chest freezer to store food.
If you need both a fridge and freezer then swap up your old one for a new one. Before you buy measure the size of the space it will be standing in and also consider your family needs. Do you eat a lot of fresh produce? Are you vegetarian? Do you cook for guests each week? Do you like to have a lot of cold drinks to hand? Also, take into account the energy rating before buying.
An essential part of making your kitchen look its best and also guaranteeing the practical stuff such as cooking, serving and prepping are made easier. Without good lighting in the right places it can make the job of meal preparation and cooking safe as it should be. Start by considering the places that most of the tasks happen e.g. where are your cooking gadgets and where do you prepare most of the cooking. Choose lighting overhead to light up the space so you can prepare food safely. For a kitchen island choose pendant lighting that lines up with the island to make the most of this space. Finally, add a lighting design that is layered so there are no shadow areas in your kitchen.
